Welcome to ChemFlash ("we," "our," or "us"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application ChemFlash (the "App").

We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. Please read this Privacy Policy carefully. If you do not agree with the terms of this Privacy Policy, please do not access the App.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Data Stored Locally on Your Device

ChemFlash stores the following data locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework:

• Study Progress: Card states, review history, spaced repetition scheduling data
• Custom Content: Any flashcards or decks you create
• Settings: Your app preferences and study settings
• Statistics: Study session data, streaks, and achievement progress

This data is stored only on your device and is not transmitted to our servers.

2.2 Information We Do NOT Collect

We do not collect:

• Personal identification information (name, email, phone number)
• Location data
• Device identifiers for tracking purposes
• Usage analytics or behavioral data
• Advertising identifiers
• Any health or biometric data

2.3 iCloud Sync

If you enable iCloud sync functionality:

• Your study data will be synced through Apple's iCloud service
• This data is encrypted and managed by Apple according to their privacy policies
• We do not have access to your iCloud data
• You can disable sync at any time in the app settings

2.4 Optional AI Features

ChemFlash includes optional AI-powered features for generating flashcards and study explanations. These features are entirely optional and require you to provide your own API key:

• How it works: If you choose to use AI features, you must configure your own API key from OpenAI or Anthropic in the app settings
• What data is sent: When you use AI features, the text you provide (topics, questions, or content for card generation) is sent directly to your chosen AI provider
• Your API key: Your API key is stored securely in your device's Keychain and is never transmitted to our servers
• Third-party privacy: Data sent to AI providers is governed by their respective privacy policies:

  • Anthropic: https://www.anthropic.com/privacy
• On-device alternative: The app includes a basic on-device card generation option that doesn't require any network connection or API key

Important: We do not have access to your API key or any data you send to AI providers. This communication happens directly between your device and the AI service.

2.5 Voice Mode

ChemFlash includes optional voice features for hands-free studying:

• Text-to-Speech: Uses Apple's built-in speech synthesis to read flashcard content aloud. This is processed entirely on your device.
• Speech Recognition: If enabled, uses Apple's speech recognition to convert your spoken answers to text. This may send audio data to Apple's servers for processing, governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
• Permissions: Voice features require microphone and speech recognition permissions, which you can grant or revoke at any time in your device Settings.

3. How We Use Your Information

Since we don't collect personal data, we don't use your information for any purpose. The data stored locally on your device is used solely to:

• Provide the core flashcard and spaced repetition functionality
• Track your study progress and statistics
• Personalize your learning experience based on your settings

4. Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell, trade, rent, or otherwise share your personal information with third parties. Since your data is stored locally on your device, we have no access to it and cannot share it.

4.1 Third-Party Services

The App may use the following Apple services:

• App Store: For app distribution and in-app purchases
• iCloud: For optional data sync

5. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical measures to protect your data:

• All data is stored locally using Apple's secure SwiftData framework
• Data is protected by your device's built-in security features
• We do not transmit your data over the internet (except for optional iCloud sync)
• The App does not require network access to function

6. Data Retention and Deletion

Your data remains on your device until you choose to delete it. You can:

• Delete individual cards or decks within the app
• Reset your study progress in settings
• Uninstall the app to remove all data

If you uninstall ChemFlash, all locally stored data will be permanently deleted from your device.

7. Children's Privacy

ChemFlash is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Since we don't collect any personal information from any users, this naturally applies to children as well.

The App is suitable for users of all ages as it contains educational content only and does not include any inappropriate material.

8. Your Rights

Since all your data is stored locally on your device and we don't collect personal information, you have complete control over your data:

• Access: All your data is accessible within the app
• Correction: You can edit any cards or content you've created
• Deletion: You can delete any data at any time
• Portability: Your data stays on your device and in your iCloud account

9. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by:

• Posting the new Privacy Policy on this page
• Updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this Privacy Policy
• Providing an in-app notification for significant changes
